Hey guys!

Hope you are doing well.

Today, I really wanted to share with you about my journey learning with Mark Rober. Mark Rober is a Mechanical engineer who has many very interesting and inspiring videos on Youtube. He worked for Nasa for 9 years and 7 of them were working on the Curiosity Rover that went to Mars!! After a while, he started making Youtube videos and now, that's his job, teaching everyone super cool SCIENCE!! I’ll put a link to some of his videos below.

Me and my brother watch his videos hours every day, and when we heard he was hosting a camp, we had to join!! The camp was 30 days long from which we learned SO MUCH!!The camp was divided into three parts/projects. Here is a list of the three main projects we did on the camp:

  1. Mechanical (something to do with food)
  2. Electrical (has something to do with art)
  3. Mechanical and Electrical (has something to do with breaking a bad habit or reinforcing a good one)

For the first project seen above, I made a food dispenser that Mechanically dispenses food so you don't get food everywhere.

The second one I made an Electric splatter paint thing where you put a piece of paper in a bin and then close the lid, you press a button then a whole bunch of cool colors goes onto the page (splatter paint style).

And finally, the third one. I made a “ If you don't wash your hands, you can't get out of the bathroom” kind of thing.

P.S Sorry, no photo!!

Materials that were used during the project:

1. Arduinos ( I will put a link and stuff below)  which is a mini easy Electronics where you can program cool stuff.

2. Tools ( drills, hammers, wires etc.) and more!! I will also add a link to some of their stuff.

So, let me dive a little deeper.

In order for us to do the projects, we had to watch many videos and follow the engineering design process through all three builds.

This is what it is!!

Brainstorm ( Scenes, problems, solutions)   Big

Research ( requirements  that are essential and non essential)    Robots

Prototype    Pop

Final build.   Footballs

And guess what! We did not do it alone. Thousands of people ( all ages ) all joined the camp. Each person got a group ( peers) where we would give feedback to one another. We were able to hear many different perspectives that helped us improve our inventions and hear what other people had to say.

Sometimes if we were lucky, Mark Rober would comment on one of our builds.

Since I am getting to the end of my camp, I wanted to share with you my experience. It was truly amazing and I learned so much.

At the end of this blog post, please take a moment and look at the link shared below.

So, the real question is, How will I be transferring all the knowledge I learned in this class to my life?
Well, I will be making much more inventions that can solve problems I see around me. The skills and tips will really make making things a lot easier.

In conclusion, I encourage you guys to watch his videos and subscribe to his channel because he is truly inspiring.

Thank you all.

~ Amelia
